Ride DetailsCamaraderie is king on this ride!
This will be a laid back “group” riding style randonnee where everyone “starts” again on each day and has an opportunity to meet others on the ride. Camaraderie and a desire to explore new places will be both desired and encouraged,
Over the Bridge
The start of the ride is in Ludington, Michigan on Lake Michigan. The ride winds its way up the eastern coast of Lake Michigan passing Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Traverse City, Torch Lake, Petoskey and finally Mackinaw City. After a quick meal at the control, riders will be ferried across the Mackinac Bridge over the Straits of Mackinac on Lake Huron to the overnight in St Ignace.
The day begins easily as you travel north up Lake Superior’s Shipwreck Coast to Whitefish Point, site of the sinking of the 800 foot laker Edmund Fitzgerald in November of 1975. After a quick bit, you will travel diagonally across the upper peninsula passing Tahquamenon Falls State Park, Newberry State Forest and Manistique Lake on your way to the second overnight at Manistique on Lake Michigan.
The Wild West
From Manistique, you travel west through Hiawatha National Forest to lunch at an authentic western saloon at Faithorn. From here you will wind your way along the Menomonie River for miles until finally leaving Michigan for Wisconsin. The rest of the day is through an area famed for lumber barons and the famous Pestigo Fire of 1871 to the overnight in downtown Green Bay – spitting distance from Packer Stadium.
The final day of the ride starts with 11 miles of bike trail along the Fox River to our first Cheese Stop at Scray Cheese. Pick up some coffee and the next few miles are rolling through famous Door County to Renard’s Cheese near historic Sturgeon Bay. The last 100k or so is spent exploring the western shores of Lake Michigan passing Point Beach State Park and finally finishing in Manitowoc.
